National Dance Day in L.A.
So You Think You Can Dance and the Dizzyfeet organization put together a National Dance Day on Saturday with events in different cities. If you’ve been watching the show, you know about it–Napoleon and Tabitha choreographed a hip hop routine for everyday people to learn.
I went down to the LA event on Saturday to take pictures–I go downtown a lot just to take pictures anyway, so when I realized it was going on, I knew where I’d be heading! Napoleon and Tabitha were there to walk the crowd through the routine a couple times, then they put on the music and everybody DANCED!

I just watched the top 6 (see above, yes I’m still a week behind) and I’m wondering if my favorite two dances were my favorites because they both had Twitch in them or because they had Lauren and Kent in them. Those two are still at the top for me at this point, but special mention has to be given to Adechike for his lyrical hip-hop routine with Comfort. It was another Nappy-Tabs masterpiece which was very reminiscent of Bleeding Love with Chelsea and Mark a couple of years ago. The only reason that I don’t think it puts Adechike in the top tier is that all the best moves and most of the emotion in the piece came from Comfort(!) She was shockingly awesome. I have to say that I really thought Robert had a great night too, but I just like Kent and Lauren a little better.

I think we’re a little behind on this, but I just watched the top 7 and had to say that Lauren is definitely my favorite now and Kent is a close second. I wish they would just leave those two together because no one else comes close.
There were some great dances in that show, including Robert and Allison’s dance to “Fix You” by Travis Wall, which was about Travis’s mother:
But my favorite was the Mandy Moore dance to “Boogie Shoes” by Billy and Lauren. I can’t find any video of it, but the episode is on hulu and trust me, it’s cute overload.

Stand out for me this week was Lauren and Kent’s prom dance routine. I think part what made it so great for me was just Travis Wall’s choreography–and he was smart to make the characters high schoolers. Perfect for Kent.

Top 9…we got a dance and a solo. What’d you think? Are your favorites pretty much cemented at this point?
2009: The Year in Pictures
I just did an expanded version of this on my personal blog and thought I’d share some of my favorite shots from this year on KB as well. But I’m paring it down quite a bit here and adding some details. (I tried to narrow it down to 24, like two shots per month, but couldn’t quite do it.)
These aren’t in any kind of ranked order. They’re actually in the order I took them throughout the year. Most of the titles come from song lyrics. Extra points if you can identify them.
1. Never – Niland, CA
If you’ve never heard of the Salton Sea or Salvation Mountain in particular, you should google it sometime. Watch some youtube footage. Really fascinating place.

SYTYCD – Top Ten
Ok, it looks like no one else is going to do this so I guess I will, partly because I totally called it last night and partly because I think this is the best season of this show probably ever (I haven’t watched it that much so I can’t say for sure). Read the rest of this entry
SYTYCD: Final 14
OK, a day late. A dollar short. Yet here we are talking about the show. Sorry my wife and I just finished watching. (Perils of working late)
So the judges really liked this week better than last week. Personally I found the dancing and in some cases the choreography kind of lacking. The two best routines of the evening were Ellenore and Ryan’s contemporary and Kathryn and Legacy’s Paso Doble. Admittedly Legacy’s dancing had that asterix. It was good for a breaker. In places though it was just plain good. And I thought this was one of Kathryn’s best dances of the season this year. She really broke out. Ryan and Ellenore’s dance was fantastic though. It more than made up for last week’s disaster. (Were I Ryan I’d be spending my free time practicing hip hop because you know he’s going to get it again!)

Man Shops Globe
My wife works as a manager for Anthropologie, which is a women’s clothing and home store with many locations in the US and UK. So, we were very interested when the Sundance Channel recently started a series called “Man Shops Globe.” This reality series follows Keith Johnson as he travels the world in search of “found objects” which are featured in all Anthropologie stores as one-of-a-kind art pieces and furniture that help to create the proper aesthetic environment for the stores, and that you can also buy. SYTYCD: Final 4
OK, I’m not going to be able to watch tonight. (I have to work late) But I figured I’d put up a post now so others can comment.
Here’s my predictions and commentary in anticipation of tonight.
