Superbowl XLVI Open Thread
Here we are folks, back at the Superbowl for another orgy of advertising, patiotism, consumption, and oh, yeah, there’s a football game too! What’s your prediction? Will the Patriots avenge their loss four years ago? Will the Giants prove their superiority? Will Madonna have a wardrobe malfunction? Will someone actually remember the words to the Star-Spangled Banner? Find out here!

I liked the singers this year. America sung by the husband wife team of Shelton/Lambert and Clarkson on the anthem. A creditable job, if nothing spectacular.
“Will Madonna have a wardrobe malfunction?”
I sure hope so!
Go Pats!
Kickoff!
Giants have the ball first and are looking pretty good on their first possession.
First down on a pass from Manning.
Another first down on a run by Bradshaw. Pats defense is not showing much so far.
19 yard pass play to Nicks. Pats corners are getting beaten.
Sack!
Then Bradshaw gets tackled for a loss. 3rd and 13. What a difference a couple of plays make!
Another sack! Pats defense comes alive!
Giants with a great punt. Pats will have it at their own 5.
Twilight spoof. Nice.
Intentional grounding safety. Holy crap.
Brady gets called for intentional grounding because he threw a deep pass to no one. Safety! Giants get the first points.
King Elton.
Yeah, that was a really weird play.
Giants have the ball, even though they just scored, which is the best thing about getting a safety.
Giants moving the ball again.
Bradshaw gains 24 down the sideline.
“Man, do I need to switch to the Giants?” my 11 year old. Sigh.
So far, this game looks like it’s going to be all Giants. Pats need to wake up.
11 yr. olds are notoriously fickle.
Safeties are really demoralizing.
As long as I never hear “Man, do I need to switch to the GOP?”
12 men on the field! Sloppy sloppy.
Yes, the Pats are blowing it.
Touchdown Giants.
The Pats need to keep their defense off the field. Hopefully no more one and outs.
MCQ, I think we did this two years ago. How are ya?
Pats need to get something going here. this is uncharacteristic for them.
Hi Chris! I’m good. Glad to see you back!
I am a Coke guy but think Elton John beats animated polar bears.
I agree with that, but I’d really like to see Elton John wrestling animated polar bears.
Pats finally look like a football team.
The GoDaddy ads are bizarre, as usual.
Go Daddy ads are great when watching the game with 3 kids between 6 and 11. Battleship looks lame.
Yeah, What’s with all the alien invasion movies?
I do like Doritos commercials. I hate the chips.
Pats are finally on the board.
I like the chevy commercials too.
GE must have teamed up with Bud. Or are they owned by the same company now?
I can’t keep track of who owns who, but I think Bud is now owned by a German company. My kids and I like commercials about peeing.
Peeing is always a big seller.
Love the VW commercial.
VW plus Vader. Sweet! The car looks sweet as well.
Yeah, i love VWs.
Geeeezz! Giants are making it look easy.
Brady keeps having passes batted down by JPP.
Both teams trading punts now.
Giants pin Pats deep again, this time on their own 4.
The NY Punter may be the MVP at this point.
Will you be watching the 3-D Star Wars series?
Probably not.
Bronkowski! He is our family fav.
Those movies weren’t that great in 2D. 3D isn’t going to improve them enough to make it worthwhile to spend the money.
I felt the Spirit during the Avengers ad.
My sons and I decided that we will save up for The Avengers and skip Star Wars.
Amen.
Big play, third and 4.
Pats get the first down.
Another first down. Pats moving the ball but not in large chunks.
Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis on GI Joe. I am intrigued.
GI Joe? Just Say No.
JPP with a tackle for a loss. Wow he’s good.
Touchdown Pats!
NE TD!
Pats take the lead!
10-9 and starting 2nd half with ball. We are feeling better at my house!
After watching that half, I would have never predicted that the Pats would be in the lead at the end of it.
Bring on Maddona!
Or Madonna. Time to check on the wings.
Madonna doing Vogue? That goes back a ways.
Loving halftime!
I forgot how much I liked Like a Prayer.
I love Betty White.
Madonna was pretty good, but I would have liked to hear more from the Ray of Light/Music era.
Pats start with the ball in the 2nd half.
Big play: third and inches. They get the first down.
Touchdown!
The Pats made some nice hits on that last drive.
This game has been much closer since halftime.
With under 4 minutes to play, this is still anyone’s game.
Wow, what a great throw by Manning and great catch.
Of course, it’s being challenged.
That’s a great catch folks.
Giants look like they’re going to win this, barring a minor miracle.
That’s it, Giants win. Not the most exciting superbowl, but it wasn’t a bad game.
MCQ,
Thanks for the thread. Can’t wait til next year.
Chris H.
My pleasure. See you then.
First Superbowl in a long time I wasn’t able to see.
