Once Upon a Time
I just discovered this show. Is anyone else watching it?
My daughter got me hooked. I’ve only seen the most recent episode and the second episode so far (I’m waiting to watch more with my husband), but there’s something about it that’s really compelling.
At least for me–and it might be a bit girly for some of you, I’m not sure.
The trailer explains the premise. Some of the things I love about it:
- The acting. The evil witch character is played really well, in fact she’s my fave character so far. She’s evil, yeah, but she’s just in so much pain that you kinda feel for her.
- The wardrobes. Everyone during the normal-human-earth scenes looks like a normal person, yet if you were to line them up, you’d be able to guess which is Snow White, which is Rumpelstiltskin, which is Prince Charming, etc.
- Characters yet to be revealed. Everyone in the town is supposed to be a fairytale character, but not all of their fairytale identities have been shown. The waitress in the diner has to be Red Riding Hood! But who is the doctor?
And just the feel of the whole thing. I can’t even really put my finger on what I love about it. But it’s great.

But who is the doctor?
I was figuring he was Doc the dwarf. (I think at least one other dwarf has been identified.) Real-world Snow White is a bit too nerdy for me, especially considering that fairyland Snow White was an outlaw.
We both love it.
I was wondering if there were any dwarfs.
Is it super cheesy? That’s the reason we skipped it, the commercials looked awful.
I don’t really know if it’d be considered cheesy. I mean just the whole fairytale thing is cheesy, but I’m thinking maybe the reason I like it is that it’s not actually that cheesy.
To me it sort of has the same feel as a show like Warehouse 13. Only this one has more compelling stuff going on, I think.
TWP thinks the doctor (Dr. Whale) is the whale who swallowed Pinocchio. Could be, I guess.
You’ll find that events in fairyland are not depicted in chronological order. The most recent episode’s events leave off right where Episode 3′s events pick up.
Cheesy? Sure…gouda…mmmm.
WE’ve been watching, but not avidly. It’s so-so.
I’ve been curious about this and Grimm. Has anyone seen both?
We have. We like both, my husband liking Grimm a little more than I do. They are COMPLETELY different shows, though.
I am really enjoying Once Upon a Time.
I’ve only seen one episode of Grimm–actually, part of one episode, and it looked pretty good I just haven’t had time to check it out properly.
I much prefer Grimm but my wife likes it much less. Grimm is darker.
Grimm doesn’t have the cheese, and is ultimately a better show. A supernatural show set in our world that’s a bit dark and the exact opposite of Twilight? Yes, thank you.
