Before Sunrise/Sunset III?

My wife is going to tease me for admitting this, but I’m a fan of the Linklater-Delpy-Hawke story that is Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. For the first film it’s mostly because it’s set in Vienna, a city which has absorbed three years of my own life. Plus, who doesn’t dream in their younger years of exciting romances enjoyed via Interrail tickets?

The sequel is a remarkable example of a mostly ad-libbed character piece set nine years after that night in Vienna. Delpy and Hawke shine and you yearn for a cosmos which will allow them their life together rather than the jaded, thirty-something malaise into which they have slipped.

Now we hear that a third film is a possibility.  May Jesse and Celine have better luck this time.

  1. Oh, they better not toy with my emotions! I love both films so very much.

  2. My daughter turned me on to these films, and I thoroughly enjoyed them as well. I would definitely see a third installment.

  3. I like both of the films, but Before Sunrise is a whole other level of awesomeness. That movie just grabbed me. I’d love to see if they can capture that magic again.

  4. I’m skeptical. Don’t mess with a good thing, right?

  5. Yes, but everyone was skeptical before the second one as well, which turned out lovely and nuanced. I feel since Deply and Hawke have a hand in writing for these characters, I’ll leave skepticism aside.

  6. I just get nervous when a great thing might get mucked up. You can bet I’ll see it. (Sort of like Arrested Development. I’m stoked for the next wave, but also nervous.)

  7. Ah. I get nervous. I’ll give you that!

  8. I like both these films as well. I prefer Sunset, actually. You get the sense they hook up at the end of that film, so what kind of better luck could they have?
