If you haven’t been watching the X-Factor

Here’s some of what you’ve been missing.

Drew is my favorite. She’s only 14.

My other favorite, Josh Krajick:

Chris Rene is also a favorite, mainly because of his very first audition:

Melanie Amaro is also really great:

The contestants have been narrowed down to 12. They’re group into categories–boys under 30 (mentored by LA Reid), girls under 30 (mentored by Simon), groups (mentored by Paula), and people over 30s (mentored by Nicole). Every category has great talent, although I’m not really into any of the groups. I think the over 30s is the strongest, but the two strongest girls overshadow them, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.

  1. Haven’t seen it at all but it looks pretty good. I guess it’s like the Voice, where each judge is coaching their team and they’re in competition with each other?

Is it really possible to have another singing competition?

  2. American Idol jumped the shark when they did “Idol Gives Back.” The singers on the Voice suck compared to the singers on X Factor. I actually thought X Factor would overtake AI for ratings but I guess it hasn’t.

And yeah, the Voice copied the X Factor’s format. I’m not sure when voting gets turned over to the audience, but I assume it’s next week.

The initial weeks of the X Factor were underwhelming, except for some of the initial auditions. Especially the time spent at the judge’s homes–seemed to go on forever.

  3. So what about the lip syncing scandal on X-Factor?

  4. I hadn’t heard about it, but I just checked. It was a group medley song, wasn’t it? Same as American Idol then.

  5. This is what I read.

The scrutiny came after Thursday’s episode when contestant Leroy Bell was heard singing before the microphone reached his mouth during an opening group medley. But an “X Factor” spokesperson said in a statement that such a practice is a common occurrence with ensemble performances:

“All survival songs are performed live, with just a backing track. For the group ensemble performance, the vocals are pre-recorded to allow acts to concentrate on preparing for their own live competitive performances on Wednesdays — this is also no different to what other competition shows do for ensemble performances.”

Still seems pretty misleading to me…
