Recent Music Purchases II

Last August I wrote a post about some of the singles I had purchased online. In that comment thread there were some great song suggestions. For instance I first learned about Miike Snow from BTD Greg in that thread and I’m a big fan of that band now. So I figured I would go for a follow up post in hopes of getting some good suggestions again this Summer. I’ve titled this sequel post “Recent Music Purchases” because I am finding myself buying whole albums on iTunes and Amazon pretty regularly too and I didn’t want to miss highlights from those albums.

Anyhow, here are some highlights from the music I have purchased since last August.

Rogue Wave — Lake Michigan — A Pandora find that I think is really cool.

Sugar and Gold — Sometimes — One of those obscure Pandora finds that stays with you.

Sometimes by Sugar & Gold

Black Sheep — The Choice is Yours (Revisited) – That commercial with the hamsters reminded me of this cool early nineties song so I bought it.

Lords of the Underground — Funky Child — This was a Pandora find. Another cool early 90s hip hop song.

Rooney — When Did Your Heart Go Missing? — This alt/pop band can be a little cheesy at time but their catchy tunes are a guilty pleasure.

The Slackers — Dave’s Friend — Who knew ska and country could meld so seamlessly? This one delivers the hypnoticky goodness.

Matt and Kim — Daylight — Probably a one hit wonder (if this qualifies as a hit). But one hit is better than none. Super catchy.

Ok there are more but I’ll stop there. What cool music have you purchased lately? (Include YouTube or similar links in your comments! )

  1. I’m an audiophile I love electric violins because of the very full sound harmonics they produce compared to a violin or guitar. This is Asteria Strings an electric string quartet.

I play it through a Mavrick Audio D1 DAC and A1 tube amplifer using Sony MDR-7506 headphones or B&W 602 speakers it sounds great as do Bond, Escala, select Motab and Mozart tracks. Nothing beats strings or voices for full sound harmonics. You can’t believe what this equipment does for your listening pleasure.

  2. Nice Heather P. thanks.

  3. As it happens, I’ve purchased a bit of new music lately, so this is a very timely thread.

BTW – The newer Matt & Kim album, “Sidewalks” is surprisingly great. I got it for my daughter for Christmas. There are about five or six really good songs on it. I used to think of Matt & Kim as a one-song band, but not so much anymore.

    New stuff.

Centro-matic’s new album just came out and I’m starting to think maybe this one will finally break them. New video:

Can’t get enough of the song “Black Night” by The Dodos.

Really enjoying new Peter Bjorn and John. Here’s “Second Chance”

This is not exactly new, but Sarah Jaffe’s “Clementine” has wedged its way into my psyche. (My daughter recently showed me that she’s learned to strum it on her violin.)

  4. Also, not released yet in the U.S., but the new Slow Club song “Two Cousins” has a video, and I really like the sound of the song.

  5. Okay, one more. Titus Andronicus. Gotta love any band that can combine punk/hardcore with Civil War history and Springstein New Jersey cliches.

  6. Good additions so far. Thanks all.

Greg — That is good news about Matt and Kim’s new album. I hope they get more hits. I like their sound. Also, I love me some Peter Bjorn and John so I’m gald you included them here.

  7. Bond – Explosive

  8. The Civil Wars. I’m a little in love!
