Song Dissection

Last week I became aware a blog called Studio Multitracks. It posts songs broken down into the tracks that existed prior to the song being mixed down to stereo. From the FAQ it seems that many of these are rips from Guitar Hero games, in other cases they are using stereo cancellation. In any case, it is very interesting to hear a classic song broken into its component pieces. For example, ever wanted to hear just the bass from Won’t Get Fooled Again? Now you can.

  1. that’s awesome.

  2. “ever wanted to hear just the bass from Won’t Get Fooled Again?”

Why yes, yes I have wanted that.

    Nice find.

  3. Yes, this is very cool. I hope it continues to expand the library of songs available.

  4. Geoff J,

I’ve listened to it twice since finding it.

For a while I had hoped that the mp3 revolution would lead to crazy multi-track recordings being made available at reasonable prices such that you could pick which instruments you wanted to listen to, or at least put them all on separate speakers. Alas, it never happened.
