The Tour

The French countryside,

the Alps,

the Pyrennes,

the teams (Radioshack, Astana, AG2R, Cofidis, Garmin, Rabobank, Euskatel, Sky, HTC, Quick Step, Saxo Bank, Liquigas, BMC, Cervelo…),

the sprinters (Tyler Farrar, Robbie McEwen, Mark Cavendish, and… wait for it, Thor Hushovd…)

the contenders (Sylvain Chavanel, Fabian Cancellara, Alberto Contador, Bradley Wiggins, Lance Armstrong, Cadel Evans, Andy Schleck…),

the king of the mountains,

We have had about a week of racing already and we are no closer to determining the winner than when we started, but tomorrow, the road goes way up into the mountains where the tour is either won or lost. Lance will be trying to get one last win, while Contador tries to repeat and Wiggins, Evans and Schleck try to get their first wins. What do you think? Can Lance bring back the magic? Will Contador be too strong? Will we crown a brand new champion?

  1. I was in Paris last summer for the final of the Tour. It was pretty energetic, particularly as the riders finally came into the city. I don’t know who will win today, but I don’t think it will be Armstrong.

  2. So am I the only person around here who’s into MMA/UFC?

  3. Hopefully, Susan, hopefully.

  4. I am an enormous fan of the Tour (and the Spring Classics). LA is done now; he’ll done what he can for Levi but it’s over for RadioShack I think. I’m rooting (and have since the get-go) for Andy Schleck. Enormous talent and a good guy personality that I just love. I don’t think Astana can get Contador positioned where he needs to be, and Cadel… well I like him but Schlecks is just a better guy.

The real question in my mind is whether LA will go out with a bang and try to get a stage win.

I’ve seen the Tour twice. It never gets old. It’s a tradition of amazing athleticism. Seriously wonderful.

  5. It’s sad to see it end like this for Lance. But I wouldn’t count out the team just yet. Levi has a chance for at least a podium finish, especially if Lance is willing to work for him. Right now, though, it looks like it’s Schleck’s or Evans’s race to lose. Contador didn’t look too good today, but he could bounce back. I’m rooting for Levi at this point.
