Community Is On Fire
Have you been watching NBC’s “Community”? If not you are missing some of the best comedy on TV right now. The writing shows flashes of brilliance, the ensemble is filled with likeable oddballs, and it has even give Chevy Chase a terrific vehicle to remind us that he is a funny, funny man.
The show has been solid all season but it reached stunning heights near the end of the season with its spoofs on movie genres. First there was the Goodfellas/Mafia movie flick (already expired at Hulu — sorry), and then that excellent episode was topped by the apocalypse/action flick spoof seen here:

(Watch it now before it expires)
As much as I love 30 Rock (and to a lesser degree Parks and Rec) I have to say that Community has been my favorite comedy on TV this season.

We just go caught up last night with the last four episodes. I still hurt. There is so much genius at work here it’s amazing.
I do wonder though how long the movie/TV/pop-culture themed episodes can take them. I hope things don’t go stale and they’re able to mix it up once in a while.
And while Señor Chang’s John Woo-style entrance here sealed this as the best episode yet, I loved the pottery episode, getting Abed a date, and the April Fools/Buddy Cop spoof episode.
It’s just nice to have a show that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Loved this episode, one of the best of all time. But I also still go back and watch the one where Pierce is in a band with Vaughn. So classic.

We DVR all four Thursday night comedies on NBC, but Community is the first one we watch every time.
Community is fun, but its also somewhat groundbreaking. Never seen anything like it.
Love all of the cast (although the less Chevy/Pierce the better), but my heart belongs to Alison Brie (Annie)… just love her! Great comic timing, plus she’s got that super deadly combo of innocence and sexiness that just kills.
The paintball episode was awesome. So awesome. But I’m still partial to the naked pool game episode. I want to laugh just thinking about it.
Hehe. That part in the pool episode when Jeff lifted his leg to get the shot was horrible/hilarious.
Genius! This show is genius. It’s quickly become one of my favorite shows and I was iffy about it in the beginning.
“I choose shorts!!”. Genius.
I think my favorite is Abed. Best show on TV.
I thought it was just brilliant that they relieved the sexual tension by practically hiding it in the warfare/paintball tension.
And I had to keep pausing the Hulu just to shush my husband who was laughing so hard during “Modern Warfare” I couldn’t hear the “rapid-fire” dialogue.
The show is amazing. I keep going back and forth between this and Modern Family as my favorite comedy right now.
Rose – same. We very nearly deleted it from our dvr early on, but gave it one more chance. And now it’s one of the first things we watch. That and Modern Family. And Rules of Engagement…
Another “love it” from me too! Great show. Abed is my favorite.
Glad to hear someone else likes Rules of Engagement. That’s been consistently good for a while but you don’t hear much about it. Patrick Warburton and David Spade are a comedy dream team.
I consider a personal mission to spread this show far and wide across the British Isles. It was recommended to me bby a few a month or so ago and since then literally no one has heard of it.
Rules of Engagement is hilarious. And underrated. And has Puddy, so really. How bad can it be?
Just wanted to say that thanks to you guys, my wife and I are now completely addicted. We’ve watched 17 episodes in the last 2 weeks. I’m glad to see from the comments that there are some hilarious episodes to look forward to. =)
30 Rock used to do some funny stuff in the end credits, but the Abed Troy show just kills. The Spanish rap from the first or second episode is just pure awesome.
The finale was masterful as well. The guest spot by John Oliver was hilarious. Hopefully he will be a regular next season.
I just found out that Danny Puddi is the butt-dialer.
