American Idol Top 20
What’d you think?
No big surprises, except I thought Alex Lambert did pretty good. Whichever judge said people would be rooting for him is right—I’m totally rooting for him now. But fave guys are still Casey and Andrew for me. Lee Dewyze is kind of funny for me. He’s one of those Eddie Vedder-wannabes that have been all over the radio for years, so the judges (and everyone else, I assume) love him. That way of singing drives me nuts. Yet he’s managed to choose songs that don’t end up sounding too much like Nickelback or Daughtry or David Cook. I don’t want to like him, but I do.
The girls did better this week. Crystal ruled, so did Lilly. Didi did better than last week. Katelyn was good (I don’t mind slow, and I love Coldplay) but she needs to step it up somehow.
Funny how after years and years of this show contestants still can’t choose the right song for them. Maybe the time frame they have during the week makes it difficult for them to know how their song is actually going to turn out. Or maybe they just don’t have the experience to choose good arrangements. In general I think the band makes everything much cheesier than it should be. I noticed that for Crystal’s song, the band actually worked really well.
Anyone know what put Crystal in the hospital? I heard she has diabetes.

The guys are going to be Andrew, Casey, Aaron, Lee, Adam, and Michael in the top 12.
Girls is pretty competitive after Crystal who is the clear cut favorite. But I think Lilly, Siobhan, Michelle, Katie, and Katelyn join her.
The girls were really strong last night but they really could have done better. Katelyn picked a great song for her (Coldplay’s Scientist) but I had to agree with Ellen that it was waaaaay too slow. Had she sung it at normal speed it might have been the best of the night.
I didn’t like Michelle’s “Arm’s Wide Open” at all. I think Didi could be really good if she takes one of the judge’s advice (can’t remember who) and sit down with her guitar and sing. Siobhan and Lilly were both impressive.
I like Siobhan because she’s just so weird. But I don’t think she knows what kind of artist she is or should be.
The young girl with dark hair who everyone keeps saying needs to do something young can sing well too. Her problem is her voice is suited to songs that you’d hear at a dentist, like Ellen said. Maybe if she did something like the Sounds or Metric she’d come across as younger sounding but I doubt anyone at Idol even knows who those bands are.
Katie? I agree with you about her voice. I think with the right songs she could end up in the top 5. This is especially true considering the fact that so many of the genres the producers pick are old and dated.
I haven’t watched, but some girl sang Arm’s Wide Open? Shouldn’t that be automatic elimination?
Yeah, you’d think so, huh. I actually didn’t mind it too much.
Ok. I just watched. Meh. And that Arms Wide Open performance made me long for Scott Stapp, which is not an easy feat…
I’m having a hard time getting excited about anyone this year.
