Best Christmas Present Ever
In honor of the now past Christmas and just so we could have one more holiday post before next year. What are your favorite presents ever?
Mine, that I still remember well, was my Six Million Dollar Man action figure along with is backpack which was an actual radio (although it had an alligator clip you had to attach to metal for an antenna). I still have fond memories of falling asleep that Christmas listening to the radio with that backpack. And Steve Austin’s arm. You could roll up the skin and see the electronics and actually fix his bionic arm!
Wow. What a great Christmas that was. Nothing ever came as close in my memory.

I remember the Steve Austin doll with the roll-up arm skin! My best guy bud down the street had him, and I thought he was sooooo cool.
My favorite present ever? I think it was my tennis-shoe roller skates with the big white pom-poms, back when I wished I could be like Olivia Newton John.
At-At. Christmas 1981.
What’s At-At?
When I was 15, my parents got me the U2 records I didn’t already have (Boy, October and Under a Blood Red Sky), a leather fringe jacket, and a stereo.
What’s an At-At? Didn’t you see Empire Strikes Back?
Dark Tower. Sometime in the 80′s.
The book John?
Speaking of Star Wars I remember that after the original movie the toy maker didn’t get the action figures made in time for Christmas. Needless to say this traumatized many kids of my age. They got in their stockings a note from the company that they’d get the figures as soon as they were released. I remember being quite disappointed and so excited when they finally arrived. (I can’t remember when – but it was at least a month after Christmas)
My first model train — 1973. I’ve been a model railroader ever since.

Further explanation here.
One of those sleds with three runners that you sit up in and steer. It would be the first sled I ever owned—before then, I used a black garbage bag on the slopes.
I sneaked into the room where all the presents were stored and saw it in its box and couldn’t wait for Christmas. Sometime between then and Christmas morning, however, my brother seriously injured himself sledding and on Christmas there wasn’t a sled to be found. Aaaagh! the agony: how could I inquire into the whereabouts of my prized sled without revealing that I had peeked at the presents?!
Clark, I REMEMBER that christmas and those IOU notes for the Star Wars toys.
My favorite Christmas present was SWs related: I remember when I was 5 and I got the Death Star (http://theswca.com/images-toys/figuretoys/deathstar.html)
I loved IT.
I always wanted the AT-AT.
This year, I would have settled for the Taun-Taun sleeping bag
oops…this is the taun taun sleeping bag
Probably my most memorable was the Go-Kart we got one year. Most memorable star wars related was the emperors shuttle.
As for the Taun Taun sleeping bag, I think i’m going to have my mom make me one. lol.
This year’s gift will likely be the most memorable: VIP ticket package to see the Black Eye Peas in concert. Package includes pre-show party and meet-n-greet with group members, back stage tour, prime seats, signed copy of E.N.D., access to off-site post-show party, a SWAG bag, and a photographer to capture it all. Too bad I have to wait three months for the actual show.
That’s a wild Death Star playset. I didn’t even know it existed. This is the one my brother got the year after I got my first Star Wars figure.
My favorite part was the trash compactor.
Apparently it was only available in Canada and the UK for some reason. Looking at it now it’s obviously a cheap quick toy they made but when I was little…
If they made something like that when my kids were little they’d have destroyed it in a week.
The most memorable gift as a kid was a GI JOE aircraft carrier. It was for my brother though, but was basically beyond awesome.
The best gift I ever received though was a rain jacket when I was living in the Philippines in 2001. It was the rainy season…
Yeah I’m discovering With my kids that not everyone plays nice with toys. My mom kept most of ours and they are mainly in good condition!
Oh here’s the story on the Christmas 1977 “early bird Star Wars special” that excited me so much as a youngster.

Your old toys might be worth a lot now Clark if that’s the case.
#18, I’ve always wanted that. So cool… LOL.
Christmases were always very well taken care of … for some reason I particularly remember getting a game called Stop Thief.
They’re only worth money if they are in great condition and with all the pieces and boxes. Mine are in good condition but the small parts are lost. My Mom just kept them so our kids could have something to play with when they visit.
Clark, at least your Death Star was circular…you know, like in the movie.
I always hated the painting of the storm troopers coming through the door into the hanger though. When I had Obi Wan sneaking around it bugged me there were always those guys running in.
