The Edge must be the real Highlander

Ok, The Edge used to look like the old guy in U2. I just saw U2 perform on Saturday Night Live. Nearly thirty years after the band appeared on the scene The Edge looks exactly the same and the rest of the band looks thirty years older. He now looks like the young guy in the band. You would think an immortal would choose a less high profile career, no? Surely other immortals are out for his head at this point.

  1. He’s the anti-Keith Richards.

  2. There can be only one!

  3. He must be Lord Byron, who apparently didn’t die at the end of that one episode of Highlander (remember – Lord Byron was an immortal and was a rock star in the 20th century? Remember?)

  4. Hehe. Unfortunately I do remember that episode Ivan…

  5. Has anyone seen “It Might Get Loud” yet? Looks good.

  6. Planning on seeing it this week, Greg. It does look awesome.

The Edge is definitely well preserved, but that’s a lot easier to pull off when you never let anyone see the top of your head.

  7. Yeah, I think the hat might be a giveaway.

  8. I think being married to a belly dancer helps keep him young. ;)

  9. What you apparently haven’t considered is that there are multiple The Edges. It’s common knowledge that the Edge uses multiple guitars during a single concert, but what is not widely known is that each guitar is played by a different clone of Mr Evans.

  10. Someone should make that into a movie. It could be called “Double Edged” or something.

  11. I think he always wears a hat because his glowing melon is the source of his powers of immortality. In 20 years or so when he can no longer conceal his nature as an immortal he will also reveal the glowing noggin.

  12. I tell my students I’m an immortal (basically, I’m Methos) and that’s why I teach history. I lived it!

By the way, anyone ever see The Source? I never saw Highlander II but I can’t imagine it being worse than that monstrosity.

  13. H2 was pretty terrible, the Source was extremely boring.

  14. He’s a great guitarist. When I think of great guitarists I don’t usually think of the Edge – but he’s definitely up there.

  15. He’s a great guitarist. When I think of great guitarists I don’t usually think of the Edge – but he’s definitely up there.

I don’t think he’s the most technically proficient guitarist around, but I can’t think of another guitarist who has gotten more out of his various effects boxes than the Edge.

  16. The Source was boring and nonsensical. H2 was nonsensical but it had some cool action scenes. Plus, the “renegade cut” salvages it somewhat. I have a hard time believing “the Source” could be salvaged in any way. What a terrible way to wrap up the mythology.
