BSG 1.30.2009 – “The Oath”
- One of the more interesting Ron Moore interviews can be found here. [Potential Vague Spoiler Warning]. Very interesting, in both good and not so good ways. One interesting fact:Â The idea of destroying the Cylon’s ability to ressurect has been in the plans since at least the second season.
Spoilers below the fold.
Movie Review: Taken
About 20 minutes into Taken, the new Liam Neeson kidnap movie, Bryan (Neeson’s character) explains to the Eastern European thugs who have just snatched his daughter, “I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you… I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.”
That pretty much sums it up. Read the rest of this entry
LOST: “Jughead”
This episode could have been titled “how to dismantle a hydrogen bomb,” except that would have been misleading. Lots of twists and turns, a few answers, and a few more questions. This is quintessential Lost.
Spoilers after the jump.

Great Song Beginnings
Walking to work this morning I listened to a song I hadn’t heard in a long while, Metallica’s The Unforgiven and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the beginning of that song. It naturally made me think about other song beginnings and the following is a quick, short list that came to mind:
The Unforgiven — Metallica
No Surprises — Radiohead
Today — Smashing Pumpkins
Over the Hills and Far Away — Led Zeppelin
Sweet Child O’ Mine — Guns N’ Roses
Thunderstruck — AC/DC
Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun — Beastie Boys
Obviously there are many, many more. What else would you add?
Gran Torino
After Clark’s recent discussion of 5 Greatest Westerns I was wondering if anyone else has seen Gran Torino.
I went into having read nothing about it and I was glad that I had done so. If you want to do so as well don’t read anymore.
BSG 1.23.09 – “A Disquiet Follows My Soul”
News and Stuff:
- BSG composer posts intensive discussion of score for last episode. Plus: Somewhere in the score to this episode I’ve hidden a clue about the end of the series. Good hunting.
-Â If you didn’t know, tonight is Ron Moore’s directorial debut.

LOST: “Because You Left”/ “The Lie”
Unfortunately for everyone (but mostly me), I’m traveling on business today—in fact, this post is going live from DFW airport—so I won’t be watching the first two episodes of season 5 until I return the the comfort of my DVR.
I’ll go ahead and publish the “links and miscellanea” section of my Lost post now, and leave the comments open for those who wish to discuss tonight’s episodes. I’ll follow this post with a “observations and speculations” post as soon as I get a chance to watch. Thanks.
UPDATE: I have now had a chance to watch the first two episodes, and I’ve amended this post to include an “observations and speculations” section below. Obviously, this post is now rife with spoilers for people who have not yet seen Episodes 5.1 and 5.2.

Why Lost is Starting to Annoy Me
Time travel and living dead people. This is their license to do whatever they want and always have an easy exit from the problem. This isn’t a complaint about complexity or not being able to follow what’s going on, I’m fine with that. It’s the easy solution to the complex problems that remain in these last two seasons. Think about it, they can literally answer every one of Lost’s big questions with one of those two explanations.
Oh, and some of that dialogue last night was painful.
I’m still going to continue watching the show, I’m way too invested at this point not to, but if last night’s episode is any indication of what’s to come then my devotion to the show is very vulnerable right now.
