I pretty much stopped watching both after I got married. However when I was single and staying up with roommates to ridiculous hours (as opposed to staying up with teething babies and toddlers to ridiculous hours) I watched them all the time. Back in the day (late 90′s up through around 9/11) we used to watch Wild On… all the time. For no real good reason. It was always just on unless we had girls over and were watching a video.
E! has The Soup. ‘Nuff said.
E actually has like entertainment news. Vh1 used to have music.
I love The Soup. But who can pass up the Top-100 Whatever lists that VH1 does? I can’t. I have to know what the top Hair Metal Power Love Ballad of 1987 was… I must know. I’m powerless.
I third The Soup. Love Joel McHale. VH1 used to have 100 whatever countdowns, but now it’s all Rock of Love and who wants to date the sketchy lady of the month shows. Sad.
Tom beat me to it. The Soup is the only half hour worth watching on either of these channels.
The first go-throughs of I love the 70′s, 80′s, and 90′s, were actually pretty good. I was addicted.
Amen on The Soup.
Never watched E!, but I used to watch VH1 on occasion during the 90s so, by default, VH1 of the 90s beats E! of never.
I sometimes find my husband watching True Hollywood Story on E. I’ve never really watched the Soup, but the host is married to someone I went to high school with, and I think my husband’s boss knows him, too.
I’d definitely take VH1 though. I love all those count down shows.
E! is terrible though as they have the entire SNL library at their disposal and yet they only play episodes from the last 3 to 4 years.
Tim, that easily qualifies as a high crime/misdemeanor.
Do they still do those Behind the Music documentaries on VH1? Or has the breakdown of dominance in music sort of made that somewhat pointless?
I really like VH1′s I love the 80/90 stuff, as well as the pop culture superbowl thing they do with Entertainment Weekly once a year.
I haven’t seen any Behind the Music shows in a long time. What I wish they’d bring back is the Reunited thing, where they got old 80s bands to get back together and do a show.
They just had a new Storytellers on, another great VH-1 show. It was Kid Rock, though.
Both these channels pretty much suck now and I have stopped watching them but I loved Bands Reunited and Behind the Music on VH1 to the point of obsession and really had a thing for Brooke Burke on E! at one time.
I think this is my favorite Storytellers and this is my favorite Behind the Music.
