I’ll start off with the Golden Globe nominees. I’m happy to see Heath Ledger recieve a Best Supporting Actor nom, though I really did think The Dark Knight might get some Best Pic love. I’ve heard mixed reviews about both The Reader and Revolutionary Road but alas. As of note, House is the only major network show in the Best Television Drama category. I feel as though we might be overrating the Showtime and HBO efforts just a bit.

Paula Abdul’s last season with American Idol? It’s a Christmas miracle!
Joss Whedon says he would have put Dollhouse on Friday nights, too.
The Jay Leno move to take over all of NBC’s 10pm time-slots is taking effect. NBC has a promising new series, Kings, starring Deadwood’s Ian McShane, that is a modern retelling of the David and Goliath story. The worry is that it may not be too appropriate for the 9/8c time.

I agree with this author that Rob Corddry deserved better after departing The Daily Show. He may have found the right project though.

Remake Alert! A Nightmare on Elm Street.
After Catherine Hardwicke was removed from the Twilight sequel, Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) is tapped to direct.

Some speculation on this year’s Oscar host. Though not mentioned and probably not likely, I wonder why a guy like Jerry Seinfeld wouldn’t take a stab at it.

Another Watchmen trailer.
Another Terminator: Salvation trailer.
A trailer for Dragonball.

no paula is staying,, thank god. tmz says so. they have some changes planned though for the show that I dont like
Is the new Battlestar Galactica really that good to be ranked #2 on that SciFi list?
What changes on American Idol?
Dan, yes it is.
Dragonball. Wow, sigh, is there any hope that movie will be other than completely terrible?
Now I’m confused as to what Dollhouse is about. I thought it was spies or assassins or something.
I’m actually a fan of the Dragonball comics, but I’ve heard nothing good about the live-action film production.
I was surprised to see Brazil so high on the list. I like it but I didn’t think it was very well-regarded or well-known. If they were going to include a Gilliam film I would expect it to be 12 Monkeys.
Actually, I’m a huge Battlestar Galactica fan, but I don’t know that it belongs at #2. It’s really become hit and miss the last two seasons.
The first two are amazing, no doubt.
Tom:
In my experience, Brazil is generally considered Gilliam’s masterpiece.
I must’ve just heard more talk about 12 Monkeys because it’s more recent.
Am I right about Brazil being relatively obscure compared to the rest of the top ten? Or have I just been hiding under a rock?
The non-TV guy, non-comedian to host the Oscars? Hugh Jackman. Not sure what they’re thinking.
Tom, Brazil received amazing reviews. Nothing else Gilliam did came close (although I really loved the Fisher King).
Regarding Battlestar Galactica the first two seasons are among the best stuff ever on TV. It’s too bad the next two seasons dropped off so dramatically.
The boxing episode alone is reason enough to drop BSG out of the top 5 on that list.
I didn’t mind the boxing episode as much as some of you. I absolutely hated the pointless Apollo love triangle.
BTW – I honestly can’t fathom how they could put that monstrosity of an adaptation of Starship Troopers in their top 25. Wow. And at 19? Of course they included both Heroes and Dr. Who. Heroes I could see down around 25, if only because the first season was good.
Firefly is vastly overrated in my book. I can see why they put it in. But really.
Most of the rest I can see. Although if you include Heroes you need Unbreakable which is pretty similar yet far superior. (I’d replace Starship Troopers with it at a minimum) And what about Cameron’s The Abyss? I get the feeling they didn’t want him filling in all the spaces. I’d replace Dr. Who with Dark City also. I’d consider Minority Report that some mention in the article except for that horrid “Murder She Wrote” third act. Spielberg was on a roll to one of his best until then.
What about City of Lost Children?
What about Contact?
That top 25 isn’t so good.
I stopped watching BSG halfway through the boxing episode. Once the whole thing is done I’ll get DVDs and wath the rest.
Think Alias crossed with Quantum Leap and The Pretender.
Is City of Lost Children science fiction? I always took it as a surrealist fantasy.
