Best Halloween Songs

This is probably the only day of the year when any of these songs are even remotely interesting to listen to.

OK, some of you probably have Halloween playlists already, but here’s a few gems to get the discussion rolling:

Nick Cave – Red Right Hand

The Time Warp!

The Misfits – Hybrid Moments

The Monster Mash

and of course this gem.

  1. Samhain. Halloween II? No, too obvious.

Human Pony Girl. Yeah, you heard me. Human Pony Girl.

  2. Dude,

    Michael Jackson “Thriller”

He may not be liked well these days, but Thriller rocked!

  3. “Dead Man’s Party” by Oingo Bongo.

“Bela Lugosi’s Dead” by Bauhaus for all the old skool goths.

“Camouflage” by Stan Ridgeway is a great ghost story.

“They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back from the Dead!! Ahhhh!” by Sufjan Stevens (although, truthfully, “John Wayne Gacy” is much more frightening).

“Country Death Song” by the Violent Femmes for a nice folk-inspired tale of evil.

“Werewolves of London” by Warren Zevon (at least as cliche as Monster Mash, but a good song anyway).

  4. And he was scary to kids for a whole set of other reasons…

  5. “Werewolves of London” is a great song. As are an astonishingly high number of Warren Zevon songs.

  6. How could you forget the zombie song?

Of course most of the songs mentioned are “fun” songs.

The really creepy ones are freaky. Like Rammstein’s Heirate Mich. (Which has creeped me out ever since I saw Lost Highway)

  7. “Frankenstein” by the Edgar Winter Group

  8. And halfway between fun and creepy is Rob Zombie

  9. Awwww….Greg! I HATE that Camouflage song! Every time I manage to get it out of my head, one of the radio stations here will play it (further cementing my utter hatred of and preferred non-listening to any radio)

  10. How about “The Homecoming Queen’s Got a Gun”?

  11. Everyday is Halloween.

  12. shazbraz -

Wow, what a strage complaint. I haven’t heard that song in years, let alone on the radio.

  13. I heard it last week. Crappy Utah radio…

  14. They do like it on X-96.

  15. I’ve had Oingo Boingo in my head all day. Now I’ve got Camouflage stuck…
The Ramones have a lot of Halloween-ish songs (e.g., Pet Cemetery, Teenage Lobotomy)

  16. I vote “Spooky” as the best halloween song ever.

    Classic IV version
    Dusty Springfield version

  17. Gabby is right — the best Halloween song is “Everyday is Halloween” by Ministry.

  18. Police–King of Pain.
And then there’s the German band Helloween…

  19. Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima for 52 Stringed Instruments.” Nothing else even comes close. (Because they’re too scared.)

  20. Hey! just heard this song ‘EVERY DAY IS HALLOWEEN” by BOO! (feat. Vince DiCola and Robbie Long)….this is THE MOST whacked intensely monster Halloween song I’ve ever heard. Check this out! Also, if I’m not mistaken, isn’t Vince DiCola the composer on the first Transformer movie (not the new one)?

  21. the best Halloween song is “Everyday is Halloween” by Ministry.

    In a landslide.

  22. Bruce Springsteen just released “A Night With the Jersey Devil” with a video:

  23. Late to the party, but I agree this isn’t even a debate…

    Everyday is Halloween by Ministry
