I like Scrubs, mainly because it’s a medical show that doesn’t take its self seriously and the sarcasm is priceless.
Scrubs was great for its first few years, despite the abuse it suffered in the hands of NBC’s schedulers. Clearly they had some very bitter former residents feeding the writers information.
Grey’s Anatomy writers should note that the characters in Scrubs actually advanced in their residencies, one year for each season. Grey’s is on what, it’s fourth season but with second year residents? Residency is long enough without doubling it for no apparent reason.
Good riddance to October Road and Women’s Murder Club. Did anyone ever watch that crap? And yet BSG struggles in the ratings!
RE: the CW, I’m dying to see what they do with a Smallville with the sole continuity being the Clark Kent character.
SG: Do you like Smallville? Or are you hoping for its demise?
And yet BSG struggles in the ratings!
I’d be interested to know what percentage of BSG fans watch the show on the internet or download it through torrents or usenet (and skip all the commercials) instead of actually watching it on TV.
BSG has really gone down in appeal the last while though. It’s still better than a lot of crap. But compared to the first two seasons it’s kind of a disappointment. Plus it’s the kind of series, like Lost, where you have to follow every episode. Add to it how dark it is and the ratings are understandable.
Regarding Smallville. There was always one or two things I really, really liked about that show. The problem was you had to put up with a ton of crap to get to that stage. That and they’ve waiting way too long for him to become Superman. What, he puts on the cape at age 30?
I gave up on it a couple of years ago and haven’t regretted it. However I hear it’s the main money maker for the network. They’ll be hurting without it.
I’ve never seen Smallville, but I believe the actress who plays Chloe(?) is still in talks to renew for next season – but she knows how much she’s worth now with others leaving and they may not be able to afford her.
I never saw Women’s Murder Club or October Road, so I won’t miss them.
I’ve been a die hard fan, waiting for the moment when he puts on the tights and cape. When it comes, if ever, I’m sure it will be a let down! Sigh!
October Road was awful. The dialogue was so painful, I’m not sure what to think of the people actually putting pen to paper for that.
I liked Women’s Murder Club, so I’m a little sad about that. Not surprised. Just sad.
Abby, I hate Smallville and the CW and long for their demise, each (proper vengeance for their EPIC screwup of Veronica Mars and of Gilmore Girls).
SG, I understand hating a network for their screwup on a particular show, but why do you have such anger for the CW and Smallville?
I stopped watching Smallville years ago (it’s still on?) when I realized they were never going to have him fly. Isn’t it part of the contract they had with whoever owns the rights that he’s not allowed to fly? Is he allowed to put on the cape?
He is the hottest thing to ever be on tv, though, next to John Schneider, and when they were both on the show…mmmmm. Dream city.
Women’s Murder Club was up there on my list of so-horrible-it’s-awesome crime dramas, but I never really watched it much. I like that actress though and want her to come back on something else.
I tried watching BSG once, years ago, and it was painfully slow and boring. And this is from someone who loves slow, boring movies/shows. I later saw a recap they did of an entire season and thought it was pretty good, but it confirmed my impression that the show was unbearably slow. (I was hoping they’d keep doing the recaps every year and I wouldn’t have to watch each episode.)
Susan M,
The first season of BSG was incredibly intense. It is possible that you had to see it from the start in order to for that vibe to carry over from episode to episode, but it was anything but slow. Unfortunately, at some point they lost their way.
Susan, that’s pretty much why I watch Smallville – for the eye candy.
I think I tried watching in the second season. There was a cylon who didn’t know she was a cylon and was going crazy, or something? I don’t remember.
Abby, one of the reasons I saw Cheaper By the Dozen in the theater was Tom Welling was in it.
Smallville was great for the first two seasons, as he seemed to discover an ability for every 2 episodes. And, the initial friendship with Lex was a fresh idea, and it was well played.
However, there was too much with the space rocks, too many people affected by it, that it soon become a knock-off on Xfiles.
The show lost me by the third season and I haven’t looked back.
Season 4 of BSG has been painfully slow…
I bought the seasons of Smallville on DVD, at least the first three. What I got tired of was the constant soap opera relationship between the characters. The parts were Clark could use his powers were enjoyable, and I felt they did a good job in delving into the problems of secret identities and superpowers. I stopped with Season Three. I have heard from some that I should continue on.
I though Women’s Murder Club was just a miniseries based on the Patterson books. Not that I ever even watched it to find out. The books are lackluster, can’t imagine the show would be much better.
I’m pretty happy to see Eli Stone coming ack, as I just recently discovered it online and want to add it to my list of shows to try and remember.
