  1. No love for Peter Bjorn and John?

But yes — some of the best indie music today seems to be coming from Sweden.

  2. No love for Peter Bjorn or John.

  3. Plus I’m Swedish. What’s not to love? (OK, I got a bit of English and Scott in there as well)

  4. #11: Clark is Swedish.

    My husband’s family is, too.

    Jose Gonzalez is something special.

  5. I would add the Concretes (at least their first album).

Sundsvall (Sundwall) is a town in Sweden.

    Go Sweden!

  6. I have other reasons for liking Sweden. The Volvo for one. :)

  7. Here’s some I like:
    Bo Kasper Orchester

    Jens Leckman

To some degree Shout Out Louds.

  8. Ikea!

  9. A lot of mine overlap with Susan’s:

    Hellacopters
    Union Carbide Productions
    The Soundtrack of Our Lives
    Dungen
    The Entombed
    Abba
    Backyard Babies

  10. My friend went once years ago and brought me back some flavors of Mentos I’d never seen before. From that moment on I’ve loves Sweden.
And the sibling who sing in Thai and are a huge hit in Thailand, they’re cool too. Kind of a niche market though ;)

  11. Brian, are Entombed death metal?

  12. Bergman!

I think Lonely, Dear is Swedish. I saw them at a Low show and they sounded like I would like their records.

Thanks to Susan I know some Dungen, Opeth, and Hellacopters. They’re all pretty solid. I can’t wholeheartedly embrace Opeth like Susan does because they’re a bit unintentionally goofy sometimes, but they can be fun to listen to.

  13. All metal is goofy. It’s part of it’s charm.

Loney, Dear is Swedish. So are the Hives and the Cardigans. They didn’t make the cut, however.

  14. The Cardigans were a little more interesting than Ace of Bass. Just my take on it.

  15. Yeah, but nowhere near as funny.

  16. Loney, Dear is indeed Swedish – the latest album is pretty good, too. Not Hellacopters, but still good.

  17. Needs more metal.

    But, Opeth FTW.

  18. I love the Shout Out Louds. Met them at a concert here in SLC a few months ago. Great, fun band. They hung around and chatted with me and my 13 yr old son after the concert. Really cool.

  19. How the heck is Jose Gonzalez from Sweden?

  20. Yes. Opeth for the win.

  21. Swedish fish!

  22. and what about refused?

  23. No love for Loney, Dear? The album Loney, Noir is great.

  24. Susan:
Entombed are death metal, though their sound has changed over their long career. They started out playing straight death metal, but their later stuff started including more straight rock & roll stuff, enough that people started labelling their sound “death & roll.”
BTW, the original drummer and primary songwriter for the band was Nicke Andersson, who is the singer & guitarist for the Hellacopters. That probably explains the creeping rock & roll influence on the last couple of Entombed records that he was on.

  25. Thanks Brian. That sounds familiar, so I must’ve known that at some point and forgotten.

  26. I can’t believe swedish supermodels didn’t make the top ten. That’s a shame, a damn shame.

  27. Henrik Larsson : Hail Hail!

  28. Top 5 reasons I love Sweden:

    5. Alfred Nobel
    4. Ann-Margret
    3. Ingmar Bergman
    2. Ingrid Bergman
    1. Greta Garbo
