Thanks for posting those! Man, they seem to be moving this season on at a much faster clip. As soon as they ask a question, they seem to be answering it the next episode…very un-Lost like.
Hurley regretted going with Locke and not choosing Jack. Why? Well, this clip seems to show it.
Who are the Oceanic Six? Well, it appears that we know for sure of
-Jack
- Hurley
- and probably Sayid.
I don’t think that Kate is one of the official Oceanic Six…
wow, looking good!!
Hayes,
While I agree with you about Hurley, that just goes to show how short-sighted he is. Does anybody think that Jack wouldn’t be willing to take hostages in a similar situation?
Hurley always kind of bugged me as being a sort of non-character. The season premiere was the first time we have seen any emotion out of him other than “wo-is-me” or care-free-easy-going-ness.
That’s the main reason why I took such a long time warming up to Lost, I just don’t like that many characters. I do like Sayid, Sawyer, Eko, Locke, Ben, Desmond and Libby, though.
I agree Jeff. Locke and Jack are pretty similar which is why Jack’s complaints about Locke are always so funny.
I have to disagree about no emotion from Hurley though. What about when his girlfriend died?
Oh that was just just more “whoa is me” in my opinion. My favorite Hurley moment, by far, was when he conned Sawyer to be nice. That was good stuff. That aside, I think he’s a pretty bland character whose screen-time to plot-contribution ratio is way too high.
interesting points about Hurley. I am hoping that there is something BIGGER that makes Hurley regret it “in the first place.” Being locked in a closet, while registering on the suckiness scale, doesn’t seem to provide for the level of remorse Hurley feels in the future/present.
I miss Ecko, but remember very little about Libby (tired eyes, big chest)…I am a shallow man.
“I just don’t like that many characters. I do like Sayid, Sawyer, Eko, Locke, Ben, Desmond and Libby, though.”
Seven characters, that’s a lot.
Funny. Hurley was one of my favorite characters. My favorites in order were
Eco (minus the sucky last episode in which he died)
Locke (even in that annoyingly unsympathetic episode where he’s hooked on a sex line operator)
Hurley
Least Favorite:
Claire (they better explain here near bi-polar like switches)
Charlie
The blonde sister (forget her name, but she’s dead now)
Brian,
Seven is a lot, but most of those people didn’t come into the show until at least the second season. And Sawyer and Locke take some getting used to.
Sayid, though.. He’s my man. He hasn’t been wrong about a single thing and is a good person nonetheless. If I were on the island, I would hate Jack, I would think Locke is absolutely crazy, and Sayid would be my main man.
My least favorites are (roughly in order of worst to least bad) Jack, Kate, Claire, Shannon (the blond sister), Hurley.
Jeff G,
Is Sayid that good of a person? He’s a torturer, and seems to actually enjoy it at times.
I think that the show has gotten away from a lot of the characters’ dark pasts, and that’s unfortunate. Kate, for example, used to kick a lot more ass. She’s a killer, and now she’s been relegated to a damsel in distress role. An object two men fight over. I think that’s a shame.
I think that there’s a distinction between liking the characters, as if they were real human beings, and liking to watch the characters. For example, I’d hate Jack too if I was on the island, but his character is compelling and makes for good TV.
If you hate Jack and think Locke is crazy, who would you follow when the group split up then?
I’d probably follow Jack if I was on the island, but I’d like Locke a lot more.
I suppose Jack does make for decent TV. I just find it unfortunate that he is the main character inasmuch as there is any at all. I also find the whole doctor=leader equation quite objectionable for some reason.
I don’t see Sayid as enjoying torturing. I can’t help but think of him leaving the camp after he tortured Sawyer. I think that although he is a warrior, he still wants whats best. I also just love how he can tell whether anybody is lying or not.
Okay, if I were on the island who would I follow? That’s a good question. First of all, I would have a really hard time being a follower in general. I’m just too independent to do that. That said, I would probably follow Locke for a couple of reasons. First, better safe than sorry, just in case the freighter people do want to kill. Second, even if all the other people get off the island without me, I would have absolutely no reason to doubt that I couldn’t change my mind after the Jack-party discovers the innocence of the freighter people. To be honest,
To be honest, I see a lot of myself in Sawyer. He’s kind of a smart @$$ who doesn’t really have a “side” and asks Locke the same questions I would have. Of course he’s a con who tries his best to get people to hate him, but hey.
Locke is a murderer who takes his advice from a ghost.
Is that the kind of person I would follow? No chance in hell. Now, perhaps having Locke throw the knife into Naomi’s back was a writer’s attempt at being dramatic in the grand finale of the Third Season, but it just is not very realistic, especially given how easily Locke changes his mind just moments later and then even later.
See, Locke threw the knife into Naomi’s back because “the ghost” (for Locke it is a taller Walt) felt threatened by the newcomer. And he was sending a strong message to the rest of the Losties. But then when Locke has his gun faced at Jack, with the ability to continue his quest to get everybody to follow him, he stops and walks away! Hello! Dude! You just killed someone and now you are walking away?!?! If I were a Lostie with Jack, I would look at that and say, “Naomi was a threat to Locke, not to me. Locke is selfish and does not wish to remain here to attempt to protect me.”
Then later Locke really mismanages the crash landing of Charlotte. Poor Charlotte gets stuck with Locke whose actions with her are also quite whacked. It is understandable that this group may not want to be found, but they just can’t seem to realize that the real enemy is in their midst, Ben. On his orders how many of their fellow Losties have been killed or taken in the middle of the night? Yet here is Locke still letting Ben live, letting him poison his group. Why doesn’t he at least shut his mouth up? Ben shot Locke with the full intent to kill him. He thought he did the job. Ben would kill Locke again at the right moment. Sawyer has it correct. Ben probably already thought of the way to do so. Ben shoots Charlotte when she is clearly not a threat (no weapon). Then Locke lets Ben continue his charlatan ways. While Ben does reveal much about Charlotte, it is only for his survival (seeing that Charlotte is after him), and certainly not in the Losties best interests. Sawyer really has it right. This is Colonel Kurtz.
Sorry, I should have added this in the previous comment.
About the showdown at the tower with Naomi, because Naomi wasn’t armed, Locke could have basically done what he did with Charlotte later: talked.
@Jeff G
What a surprise. Sawyer is the character that all the ladies like and you fancy yourself to be the same.
@ Dan
Stop babbling.
CC,
I didn’t know that the ladies were into Sawyer. I thought they were all about the Doc.
Dan,
There are a couple of points where I disagree with you. First of all, how many Losties did the others kill? I’m having a hard time coming up with any.
Regarding Ben shooting Ben, there might be more to the “let’s hope Jacob helps you” comment than mere sarcasm. It could have been that Ben really expected Jacob to help Locke, assuming he really is “special”.
EW is giving some clues about tonight’s episode through a few anagrams. I think I’ve figured out 4 of the 5, but I can’t quite get the 4th one. (Wish I could do spoiler text) Here’s the article:
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20177995,00.html?xid=email-ThisWeekend-20080214-5Things-Story2
Here are the anagrammed clues:
arcane lock hut
aghast sap woe
a cabal armor entity
crucial sore purged
leached pier trio
I’m fond of “A Rescued Corgi Purl” for #4 but I doubt it’s right. Could be Croup Girl instead. Oh, the hint is that all the answers start with “a” as in “a really lame game”
I used the Anagram Server, but still, there are a LOT of responses with this many letters.
Sayid! We hardly knew thee! Woah!
The Others stole kids, killed most of the people in the tail section, hung Charlie up to die, killed Charlie, told Locke to kill his dad, and then let’s not mention Ben’s killing of most of the Dharma camp…
Who did they kill from the tail section? Ecko killed a few of the others, but they were simply trying to kidnap them and “give them better lives.” Yes, they were told to kill people, but it never actually happened, with the exception of Charlie.
