Heroes recap: "Fight or Flight"
Is tonight’s episode Supergenius’ last recap for Heroes? You tell me, in the comments.
Perhaps the always-awesome Kristen Bell can save the show. Perhaps not. Either way, I’ll watch. Actually, I won’t be able to write the recap tonight — sorry to disappoint. But this will be the deciding episode as to whether we continue to recap Heroes. The main replacement candidate is “Pushing Daisies.”
In the meantime, here’s the guide for tonight’s Heroes:
In Ireland, a lost Hero attempts to move beyond the past, but discovers that a mysterious woman, Elle, is willing to kill to find him. Matt and an unexpected ally fly to Philadelphia to hunt down the “boogyman,” following his terrible attack on Molly, but the pair finds themselves outmatched. Monica tries to come to terms with her new abilities and her role as a local hero. Suresh meets his new partner and gets a disturbing assignment. H.R.G. takes a step to further protect his family. Meanwhile, as Hiro continues to fix the past in feudal Japan, Ando attempts to piece together historically what’s happened to his best friend.

AT SCHOOL, WEST CONVINCES CLAIRE TO TEACH A BULLYING CHEERLEADER A LESSON — West convinces Claire to teach head cheerleader Debbie a lesson after she deems Claire too ordinary to join the squad. While Suresh faces a serious moral dilemma with the Company, H.R.G. pays his Russian mentor a visit in an effort to locate Isaac’s last prophetic paintings. Meanwhile, nearing the U.S. border, Alejandro becomes increasingly uneasy about Sylar’s intentions, especially towards Maya. Peter and Caitlin’s search for a mysterious doorway he painted ultimately leads them to a surprising place. In feudal Japan, while attempting to repair history, Hiro struggles with his feelings for Kensei’s “princess” Yaeko.

Ugh, I hope tonight is a good episode.
I thought tonight was an improvement. The plots finally seem to be ramping up. Veronica Mars’ visit was great, and the nightmare sequences were the best thing we’ve seen all season, I thought.
I liked the nightmare sequences as well. They were well done. I am really curious to see where they are going to go with Nathan’s doppleganger.
But, the biggest disappointment has been Hiro and Ando. What a cheesy way to tell the story. Just tell it! And, if it were already fact, would Ando have to read the scroll, or couldn’t he just research the history?
And, I liked this episode. Any coincidence that it did not have Claire or the Wonder Twins?
Ok, I said I quit, but pressure from friends had me tune in anyway, and while I watched with half en eye while I read, it was better than the last three combined. Maybe I’ll hang in a little longer.
The dream fight was the best thing so far, agreed.
Dangit, the episode was good. And Kristen Bell ruled. Looks like I’ll keep watching and recapping.
I was very, very glad not to see Claire or the Wonder Twins. I’m liking Nathan.
Yeah, I’ve done a 180 on both Nathan Petrelli and Mohinder Suresh this season. I’m very surprised.
Last night definitely had the feel that the first season had…
And, when I heard mind-reading cop’s dad talking about how the original Heroes banded together and formed a Justice League, I thought to myself, “THIS is what I want to see! I want to see them team-up and start working together!” Last year, it seemed that the Heroes were all fated to meet in NYC and save the world — together. When Hiro came back from the future, he kept on using “We are counting on you.” The show created the promise of a joining-up. And, the season finale barely scratched that potential’s surface.
I was for sure that they would all stick together and see what they could do as a team, only to be disappointed that season II started off “Four months later…”
Perhaps the future episode will show that they tried to work together, but that it didn’t work. Perhaps Nathan and Chubby Cop working together is the start of something promising?
Perhaps…

That part made me think of The Watchmen. Except that only one of the older vigilantes had superpowers.
I think the previous episodes were just doing the humdrum job of setting up all the backstories for this years plot and they finally started getting to the meat of it all last night.
I think Mohinder is like a lot of us who desperately want to do something and end up turning to whatever we think will provide it without thinking of the long run. Makes me wonder how they’re going to get Molly back this time, and if Mohinder ends up buying into the Company’s rhetoric.
I’m interested to see how far Parkman can take his powers and how he’s going to team up with Nathan. And I’m DYING to know what is up with Nathans ‘other’ self. Hiro, meh. Peter, getting interesting, but tell me how he got there. Wonder twins and Sylar, yawn. It feels like they’ve added too many new characters and are having a hard time keeping up with everyone. Victims of last seasons success perhaps? We shall see.
I don’t know about Mohinder. It’s clear that he has a Power. I think it will come down to him doing something nasty to the copycat.
Definitely too many characters this season. It’d be better if they focused at most on two per episode. (IMO)
But last night was considerably better than past weeks.
Surprisingly (if off topic somewhat) Chuck last night was actually much better than previous episodes and much better directed. Even the dreaded lack of someone doing lighting didn’t seem to be a problem.
You know, the writers could do worse than mine what happens when these Heroes band together and start their form of vigilantism, what the consequences are, and then ask that question, “who watches the watchmen?” TV provides a natural venue for such an exploration…
I don’t think we’ll get there. We definitely won’t see the downfall of the original hero band, and will probably have a quick exposition on what happened, and that will be that.
Hayes, I agree, that could be really great.
What do you think about the upcoming Watchmen movie? I’m deeply skeptical. I just don’t think it’s a very filmable comic book series.
Liked tonights episode – best all season. Next weeks looks even better.
#11: How is it clear that Mohinder has a Power? (Aside from super-healing blood)
My favorite part (other than the return of Parkman’s wife) was when Parkman spoke inside Nathan’s mind. Now, we’re talking!

Er, that’s a power, right there….
I don’t believe they’ll make Watchman a good movie either. If only because folks will expect action when that isn’t really the theme. Plus they’ll have to skip all the flashbacks to the 40′s and 50′s. I’ll lay really good odds they play down the interesting political bits as well.
BTW – Next week’s Heroes doesn’t look better if only because it’s back to the stupid cheerleader and her psycho boyfriend subplot and the boring twins. (Dang I wish Sylar would just kill them and be done with it)
I agree with others who are saying the nightmare sequence was well done. That was really very interesting to see and imagine.
It’s interesting to see how things are depicted in comics versus how they are depicted on a screen and how well they work out. I don’t think that nightmare sequence would have been nearly as interesting in print.
I’ve noticed the same thing with the X-Men movies … some characters make the transition better than others – and some actually improve in a movie/show format. Others don’t do as well.
I would love to see the Hero’s recaps continued, I look forward to reading them after every show. They’re hilarious and always help to pick up on things I may not have noticed the first time as well. Making fun of Micah? Priceless.
I missed this episode for various reasons.
And I can’t find myself caring.
The Watchmen as a movie will be tough to film. Of course, after Sin City and 300, people really believe that there is a market for graphic novels (which really The Watchmen is, right?). I still think that a good TV series (with limited # of episodes) would be much better suited to tackle such a feat. If this movie gets made, they will spend the first 1.5 hours building the characters, and then they will have some mission that the “heroes” (I know that is a dicey term with the Watchmen) will accomplish, but will leave enough material for a sequel.
I think that the comic book genre as described above is played-out (for me, anyways), and I would like to see producers put more of this stuff to TV. With TV’s production values and SFX abilities, you could really do a great show. Look at BSG, Lost, etc… That gives me hope for the Star Wars TV shows…
But, back to Heroes…there is a lot of potential if the Heroes start partnering up, and ultimately unionize or something. And, I noticed that next week’s episode focuses back on Claire and Weekend with Sylar. ugh…here’s to hoping that they follow in last night’s footsteps.
I agree that the comic book genre is played out. Plus the majority of films have sucked. Even the “good” ones have some strong weaknesses (i.e. the Hulk, Spiderman 3, Superman Returns) But they make money so…
I really wish they’d come up with a bit more inventive stuff.
Having said that though I’m looking forward to the new Batman movie.
BTW – I heard Bryan Singer might be off the new Superman movie and that the writers are gone. Apparently they are thinking about “rebooting” it much like they are doing with the new Norton version of The Hulk. I’m not sure that’s a good idea. Singer’s Superman made some really bad choices. But it was a good movie I thought.
In regards to graphic novels I thought Matt Wagner’s Grendel was pretty well done. But that was a LONG time ago and I might just be whistling to myself in the dark here …
#17 – but… didn’t Mohinder’s dad give him that? Or did I misinterpret that storyline? I thought Suresh Sr. was looking for a cure for his daughter and then… dang, I can’t remember the timeline on it. Can someone refresh my memory?
In other news, what if Nathan got some of Peter’s powers (DNA transfer?) after the explosion such that he was able to regenerate himself?

I’m pretty sure the saying whistling in the dark predates the TMBG song by a long time. (Though that is the first thing I think of when I hear the phrase too…)
BTW – I agree that this was the least sucky episode this season.
Anyone else notice how much zombie Nathan looked like evil Ash from Army of Darkness?
