What are you a sucker for?
I have had the house to myself for the past two weeks and as a result my own tastes hold sway (and since the only thing they have to hold sway over is me, there’s been a lot of sway-ness). Much to my chagrin, I have discovered that there are some things that I’m a major sucker for. Read the rest of this entry
Another show to watch??
Like my tivo wasn’t full enough, it looks like Fox may have an interesting new show this Spring — FOR ONCE. DRIVE is by Tim Minnear, of “Angel,” “Firefly,” and “Wonderfalls” fame. It’s pitched as “Magnolia on wheels.” Here‘s the Variety story with some more details.
As AICN said, and I hope they’re right:
Survivor : Amazing Race :: Lost : Drive.

Audio Book Review: A Scanner Darkly

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. – 1 Corinthians 13:11-12.
During a recent attempt to tighten household expenses, I discovered that I’m currently spending about $200 a month on gasoline and about $80 in tolls just to get to and from work every month. The only upside I’ve been able to uncover in this situation is that it also means I have an opportunity, should I take it, to listen to audio books during my daily commute. Recently, I finished listening to the unabridged audio book version of Philip K. Dick’s A Scanner Darkly.

Friday comedy: Rowan Atkinson
This is a classic called “Fatal Beatings.” Enjoy.
(NOTE: one swear word near the end, but still probably worksafe.)
The Fonts of Cross-Promotion
I watched with some interest recent commericals and advertisements for the Sony Playstation 3. Read the rest of this entry
LOST: Every Man for Himself
After a week apart from the Others, it’s back to Benry (hereafter to be referred to as Ben Linus, or just Ben) and his crew, bringing the evil as only the Others know how.
More (with spoilers from this week’s show) after the break.
Name These Love Songs
I’ve spliced together clips of songs to see how many you can all identify. This week’s clips are all love songs. Or at least, they fit my definition of a love song! Some of these might be a little tough.
I’ll give you a day or two to make your guesses, then I’ll post the answers. There are clips from 14 songs this time.
Song clips are in the radio.blog: “Name These Love Songs”
NOTE: You might want to listen and make your guesses before reading the comments, or other people’s guesses might spoil your fun.
UPDATE: I’ll paste the answers in down below. If you haven’t had a chance to make your guesses, don’t click on the “more” link until you have!

Voxtrot: Two EPs of pure goodness
Voxtrot is your typical indie band: catchy songs with enough words shoved into them to give you a headache, a cutesy-voiced singer, and 80′s influences worn on the sleeves of their Style Council and Housemartins t-shirts.
And I love them. I mean, really, really, love them.

Concert Review: Iron Maiden w/Three Inches of Blood
That’s right, the band I’ve seen live more than any other, the band I’ve seen play at little tiny bars with about 5 other people in attendance, the band I’ve driven to Vegas to see, the band I’ve given packages of new socks and mix cds of 70′s and 80′s cheesy rock while on tour, the band whose guitarist is kind enough to hang out and talk guitar and videogames with my youngest son, Three Inches of Blood, opened for Iron Maiden Saturday in Irvine, CA, and I was there!
