Name These Classic Rock Tunes
I’ve spliced together clips of songs to see how many you can all identify. This batch of songs are all classic rock tunes. I think most of these will be easy for everyone. There’s a couple more obscure songs but even those aren’t that difficult.
I’ll give you a day or two to make your guesses, then I’ll post the answers. There are clips from 14 songs this time around.
Song clips are in the radio.blog: “Name These Classic Rock Tunes”
NOTE: You might want to listen and make your guesses before reading the comments, or other people’s guesses might spoil your fun.
UPDATE: I’ll paste the answers in down below. If you haven’t had a chance to make your guesses, don’t click on the “more” link until you have!

Haha, wow. I think you’ll feel even more pathetic when you find out who they all are, but don’t feel too bad. A couple are pretty obscure for the average person.
I might have to send you all these songs as a mix cd, Tom.
Yeah, there are a few I know I should know. For how much I listen to music, including older music, I’m not much of an encyclopedian, if that’s a word. I explore music history pretty much one album at a time.

3. Joplin: “Down on Me”

You stumped me with the Joplin song – if it ain’t on ‘Cheap Thrills’ and it’s by Janis Joplin, I don’t know it. The others were pretty much gimmes. God, I’m such a geek.
Oops, the Trower song should be numbered 10, not 20.
wow, Brian.
I knew Brian would cream this one. But don’t worry, he’ll be lost when I get to brit pop or indie stuff.
LMK if anyone wants any full songs posted to the radio.blog.
I’d like to hear the Robin Trower.
I’ll wait till tomorrow to post full songs in case anyone else wants to make their guesses. But any other requests, lmk.

Wow, I thought I knew classic rock. Sheesh.
Um, yeah, Jackson Browne and Beatles. I’m an idiot.
Classic rock is not my bag, man [/austin powers]
I have a feeling my husband would know every one of these.
I love the Cat Stevens song, though – I heart Harold & Maude.

I only guessed bands this time, not songs. Still, I didn’t get a single one right, if Brian’s results are all correct. Now I don’t feel so bad about my results for the 80s tunes.
I’m sure you’re all not surprised that I didn’t get many of these — I can’t remember titles at all. Here are the bands/singers I recognized:
1. Hendrix
2. Bob Dylan
3. Janis Joplin
4. ?? (I did think of Cream)
5. Cat Stevens
6. Led Zeppelin
7. ??
8. ??
9. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young — Teach Your Children Well
10. ??
11. Jackson Browne — Doctor My Eyes
12. The Doors — Break On Through
13. The Rolling Stones
14. Beatles — Happiness is a Warm Gun
I haven’t looked at others – here are mine:
Jimi Hendrix – The Wind Cries Mary
Bob Dylan – Tangled Up In Blue
Joplin?
Cream – Sunshine of Your Love
Cat Stevens – If You Want to Sing Out
Led Zeppelin – I Will Still Be Loving You
??? I Can’t Find My Way Home
????
CSN – Teach Your Children Well
????
Supertramp? – Doctor My Eyes
The Doors – Break On Through
Rolling Stones – ???
The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun
Hmmmm…
Having read the other comments I can now safely declare that I listen to a lot of Zeppelin and never look at the song titles.
This reminds me that I need to buy some Cat Stevens. iTunes music store, here I come…
MeM, these geezers may have encyclopedic knowledge of classic rock, but we have our youth. We win!
(Although youth is fading fast . . .)
I’ve posted the answers ( Brian had them all right except he didn’t know the name of the Joplin song). I’ve also posted the Robin Trower song to the radio.blog–enjoy.
Who is this other Brian? There can only be one.
Brian’s a friend of mine, his wife Christine was the one who nailed the 80′s name-that-tune. You guys think I’m a music geek, but you don’t even know.
Oops, I didn’t realize there was another Brian. I’ll refer to myself as Brian V to differentiate myself from the other.
So, is there like a 20-year age difference between Brian V. and his wife?
Only 8 years, but she’s actually older than me. I’m just a grumpy old man in the guise of a 31-year old.
