Let’s dish on the Grammy’s
I said “dish,” not “diss.” Allthough feel free.
I’m not exactly qualified to make this post, since I didn’t actually see the entire show. I tivo’d it so I could skip the annoying acceptance speeches and various blatherings and get to the good stuff–live performances. So I’ll have more to say once I’ve watched all of it. I did however catch a few minutes here and there…
And here are my comments:
- U2 should be banned from performing on award shows. Anyone else is such a let down after they play.
- Mary J. Blige sure pours herself into her singing. I actually had goosebumps during “One.” (But it is one of my favorite songs of all time.)
- Who sings “Ordinary People?” I liked that a lot.
- I don’t know who won any categories yet (feel free to post about it), except I caught that Alison Krauss and Union Station won for best country album. How did I not know they had a new album out? This is why I watch the Grammy’s–there’s all this popular music I’m out of the loop on. I’m gonna go buy it this weekend, even if I have to special order it via my local indie cd store. Did they perform?

The best thing I can say about the Grammies is that at least Mariah Carey didn’t win.
It’s cool that Emmylou Harris won the country female award. I don’t know the new album, but I do like Harris.
U2 should be banned from performing. I agree…
The most undeserved award, imo, is “best rap/sung collaboration” going to Jay-Z and Linkin Park. I don’t know what else was nominated;I’m a big fan of Jay-Z, but jeez. That collaboration was horrendous.
The second most undeserved award is Slipknot for “Metal Performance”. Wow and wow.
News to note: White Stripes won for best alternative album. Whee!
I’m just so glad Mariah didn’t win many. And the ones she did win were off primetime….I don’t think I could have handled that at all (and speaking of being banned….that would be nice!).
Susan, John Legend sings Ordinary People. He’s one of those that I’m pretty sure I’m supposed to like, but don’t.
I just looked up who the nominees were in the metal category. Surprised to see Shadow’s Fall there. Are they popular?
Anybody know if the Sly Stone performance is online anywhere? I didn’t watch, but if I had remembered that Sly was going to be on I probably would have made an effort.

The Sly Stone performance wasn’t much of one – A bunch of musically weird match ups singing his hits, then he comes out, sings a chorus of…. emmm it escapes me which song he sang a chorus of, and then he promptly walked off stage while the jam session raged on.
It was kinda like he said fuck you to a standing o.

His mohawk was mesmerizing though.
I have it on vhs if you can’t find it anywhere else.

The only thing I saw was Madonnna at the beginning. Without commenting on the music, all I can say is, Wow, I’m gonna start doing Yoga, like right now! She looked so incredible.
And I’m with you on Allsion Krauss & Union Station, I’ll be out looking for it too.
Yeah, but tracy, I think a very expensive personal trainer has as much to do with it as the yoga!

Madonna got listed at Go Fug Yourself for her outfit. Everyone hated it. The pic they have of her still shows those flabby over forty arms!
i thought Linkin Park/Jay Z/Paul McCartney was crazy but it was awesome and LPJZ deserved the award because it was just the best nominee, oh and Mariah Carey sux!!
