Wilson Pickett dies of Heart Attack at 64
by Pris
I am a fairly young guy, so most of my favorite blues, R&B, and soul singers had already sung their last note by the time I got around to caring. So this is a little sad.
You know, if somebody were to ask me what I thought was the greatest song of the recording era, I’d feel really good about saying Mustang Sally.
We gotta give the man the props he deserves.

Wow, I hadn’t heard about this. He was only 64? He’s one of my faves, although I think I only have stuff by him on vinyl.
Amen Pris.
I got to know his stuff from his (mind-blowing) version of “634-5789″ on Blues Brothers 2000 (the musical high point of the movie, imho). Then I got more and more–there was a while where all I’d listen to was Wicked Pickett. It’s a sad day when the world loses real R&B.
Mustang Sally was the best! It just on eof those great xongs that transcends ages. You will be able to play that song in fifty years and everyone will love it.
“In the Midnight Hour” is also the finest soundtrack drop I can think of in its “The Big Chill” incarnation. That song was perfectly placed.
